Nothing is powering on... Save for the fan in the PSU provided that you hold the power button for long.

Glad he bought that performance/maintenance contract, though.

PSU is toast pretty much guaranteed.

could be a bad power supply.

Welp. Gotta undo a number of zipties and cable managem- ah, screw it. I’m just going to tell him to send it back up.

I can’t remember the brand for now, but I knew it was a 550W... Had a feeling it didn’t like powering the computer as it is.

While you’re in there you may want to adjust the way the RAM is populated. With two sticks of ram you can operate in dual channel mode to increase the memory bandwidth. So either have both sticks in the black slots or both in the gray slots.

why only water cool the cpu?

the video cards are the ones that make the most noise.

.... I think this picture sums up how I feel about myself for putting the RAM sticks side by side now that I know this.

I asked him that as well, and this is what he told me:

“Well, my room is cold enough as it is and it’s never going to be an issue!”

He also asked me if I could overclock his system.

Probably Forgot to top off his Hard drive fluid......

In all seriousness though. See if you can get it to power up with minimal components. Unplug & remove the GPU and plug your display into the integrated card on the motherboard, unplug all of the non essential (non boot) drives & non essential fans. Also, you can jump the power button pins with a small flathead.

Good Luck!

If there are any issues after a power supply swap. Remove all the components from the case, it may be somehow grounding out. Just attach the PSU, and RAM, then jump it using a screwdriver.

550W is pretty low for most systems that have a dedicated GFX card, 650W-750W is a nicer operating envelope.

PCpower, Corsair, Silverstone are the only PSU brands i’ll ever touch anymore.

How about Thermaltake PSUs? They’re pretty rock solid from what I’ve experienced.

Get this into dual channel mode stat. Oh and buy at least a 750 watt PSU inthe event he wants a newer nvidia gpu at some point this year.

Most people wouldn’t liquid cool the CPU for noise, that would mainly be reserved for the overclockers, if you want silence you get heat sinks. GPUs generally don’t get hot enough to bother with it and even if they did there are plenty of air cooled options to keep the temps and the noise down.

stuff has gotten a lot more efficient recently.

that GPU is rated at 120w

a top of the line consumer i7 is <100w

a 550w psu should be ample (if its well made)

They’re like apple in terms of crippling. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace…

Sorry for the sauce. But it’s very descriptive and shows the problem.

Also and they are trying to monopolize (HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR PRICES!!!???)

He said something about over clocking in another comment, so I’m guessing he us pulling more than stock. A 550w psu should be good, but only if he spent the money to get a nice one, which lots of people don’t do. I would 0nly do <600w is if I was making a super small form PC that couldn't hold a second card.

It’s slightly acceptable compared to AMD’s faulty drivers.
